On Thursday, November 23rd, 10:30am-12:00pm, the Itaewon Global Village Center will hold a “Temple food making class: Kimchi Memil Jeonbyeong (Kimchi-buckwheat Rolled Crepes). The class will give participants an opportunity to learn the natural and healthy Korean temple food.

 

Temple food

Temple food refers to the food eaten daily at Buddhist temples. At Buddhist temples, everything is considered a part of practice. From growing vegetables to preparing the food, monks and nuns are directly involved in the whole process.

 

Monastic practitioners make it a point to always be grateful for the efforts of all those involved in the preparation of food.

They take only the amount need for their physical sustenance, leaving no leftover food in their bowls. This distinctive approach to food preparation has been gradually shaped over many centuries, based on a foundation of Buddhist philosophy and practice.

Temple food is natural, healthy and also a part of Buddhist life. Even today the 1700 - year - old tradition is alive at Korean Buddhist temples.

 

This class is a great way to learn more about Korean temple food, Buddhism lifestyle and of course, learn how to cook simple Korean vegan dishes.

 

The participation fee for this class is 10,000won.  We will be making “Kimchi Memil Jeonbyeong (Kimchi-buckwheat rolled crepes)”.  Which is similar to crepes that has kimchi and other vegetables filling. The crepes will be made of buckwheat flour.

 

The venue of this event will be near Anguk Station. Specific details will be emailed to you once you have made your payment. You can sign up in person or by email only.
