|제목||Korean Cooking Class|
On Wednesday, May 25th, 10:00am-12:00pm, the Itaewon Global Village Center will hold a Korean cooking class “Bibim Guksu & Haemul Pajeon.”
Bibim guksu, a cold dish made with very thin wheat flour noodles called somyeon with added flavorings, is one of the most popular traditional noodle dishes in Korean cuisine. It is also called “guksu bibim” or “goldong myeon,” all of which literally mean "stirred noodles" or "mixed noodles". The dish is especially popular during summer.
There are many kinds of cold noodle dishes in Korea, including one made with cold beef broth; however, spicy cold noodles have historically been appreciated by spice-loving people in Korea and recognized internationally. What makes this dish distinct from other cold noodle dishes from different cultures is the spicy flavor produced from the combination of red pepper powder, gochujang, and minced garlic, along with a sweet-and-sour flavor created by vinegar and sugar.
Another dish we will make is haemul pajeon (seafood pajeon). Various seafood are used in the batter and toppings, e.g. oysters, shrimp, squid, clams. Pajeon is a variety of jeon with green onions. It is a pancake-like Korean dish made from a batter of eggs, wheat flour, rice flour, green onions, and often other additional ingredients.
The venue of the class is Cheongjeongwon cooking studio near Ewha Woman’s Univ. The participation fee is 12,000won. You can sign up in person or by email only.
One person can only register up to 2 persons. 1 email = 2 participants ONLY. If your other friends want to join this class, please ask them to register separately. Thank you.
