On Friday, May 27th, 10:00am-12:00pm, the Itaewon Global Village Center will hold a “Najeon Mirror Making Class.” Participants will make a table mirror, square, 10cm in each dimension.
Najeon means ‘mother-of-pearl’ in Korean language. Najeon arts first started in China, Dang dynasty(AD 618 – 907). Since then mother of pearl became a unique decoration in Asia. Among those, Korea’s use of mother of pearl has been considered the most profound. Usually abalones and pearl oysters are used as materials for mother of pearl.
Before the actual practice, you’ll have a short lecture which includes the introduction on Najeon, and simple tutorial.
The venue of the class is the National Museum of Korea, and we will meet at the museum on the class day. (Ichon station, line 4) The participation fee for the class is 6,000 won. You can sign up in person or by email only.
