On Friday, July 7th 10:00am-12:00pm, the Itaewon Global Village Center will go to the National Museum of Korea for a unique opportunity to make “Buncheong sagi” (buncheong celadon) which has the distinctive grayish blue color.

The history of Korean pottery stretches back to the Neolithic age. The pinnacle of Korean pottery was the development and perfection of celadon (cheong-ja) during Koryo Dynasty of Korea.

Buncheong sagi emerged in the early Joseon Dynasty. This celadon uses a technique where a grayish blue clay body is coated with white clay. This technique allows engraving patterns on the surface. Buncheong sagi shows  the transition from cheongja (blue celadon) to white celadon. The shape of the celadon is initially based on that of cheongja in the late Koryo Dynasty and has gradually evolved to ample shapes. Most celadon potteries were produced in 15th and 16th centuries.

The celadon disappeared from Korea after the 16th century due to the popularity of white porcelains. However, in modern times, Buncheong celadon has been revived in Korea.

After making your celadon, you can pick the celadon at our center after 3 weeks.
