On Friday, August 18th, 10:00am~12:00pm, the Itaewon Global Village Center will hold a “Korean Cooking Class: Samgyetang & Geotjeori.”
“Samgyetang” is the Korean word for ginseng chicken soup. It is derived from three syllables: “sam” for insam or ginseng, “gye” for chicken and “tang” for soup. It consists primarily of a whole young chicken stuffed with sticky rice and garlic. Koreans usually eat this during hot summer days as they believe that you can only fight fire with fire. Also, this dish is full of nutrients that will help you regain strength during hot summer days, and helps prevent illness during the summer season.
Geotjeori is a kind of kimchi. It is also known as “instant kimchi” because it does not have to undergo fermentation, unlike ordinary Kimchi that we are used to. Simply put, it is made to be eaten fresh, just like salads. For this class, we will be making “baechu geotjeori” or napa cabbage geotjeori. Napa cabbages during summer tend to have smaller and thinner leaves which is perfect for making geotjeori. It is also perfect combination with samgyetang!
This class will be held at Cheongjeongwon Cooking Studio (near Ehwa Women’s University). The participation fee is 15,000 won (per person/Cash Only). You can sign up in person or by email only. To sign up by email, please email us your name, nationality and phone number.
