Flood Damage Prevention and Mitigation Guidelines
 

Before heavy rain
-	Contact your local community service center or municipal office to find the nearest emergency flood shelter.
-	Prepare emergency equipment and storage space.
-	Inspect and reinforce vulnerable points around your house.
i.	Inspect the drain system.
ii.	Remove covers from street inlets.
iii.	If your house is located on a lowland or frequently flooded area, contact your local community service center or municipal office to have a backflow preventers or waterstops installed for free.
-	Move vehicles parked near a stream to a safe place.
-	Do not park your vehicle in an underground parking lot to prevent submersion
 

During heavy rain
-	Evacuate to a highland when a sudden flood occurs.
-	Inspect your house.
i.	Switch off and unplug all electric appliances during a thunderstorm.
ii.	Shut the gas off.
-	Do not go near or enter high floodwater.
-	Go inside a building or a lowland during a thunderstorm.
-	Call 119 or the municipal office immediately upon occurrence of a hazardous situation.
-	Be aware of electric shock accidents.
i.	Do not touch or go near telephone poles, street lights, and traffic lights.
ii.	Do not go near or enter factories and construction sites.
-	Do not enter streams and creeks during a localized torrential rain.
-	If you are driving, drive slowly.
i.	Avoid submerged roads or bridges, and drive on low gear.
 

After heavy rain
-	Contact your family members and friends to check their safety.
-	Check damage caused by heavy rain.
i.	Contact your local community service center or municipal office if you see any damage on residential houses, water and sewage systems, building poles, and roads.
ii.	If your house has been flooded, make sure the circuit breaker is down. Use it only after conducting a safety check with the local authorities. (Open the windows to ventilate the space as there is a risk of gas leakage. Do not use matches or lighters until the space is properly ventilated.)
-	Do not go near or enter submerged roads, bridges, streets, streams, and river banks.
i.	Do not enter water even if you are trapped in an isolated space.
ii.	Keep away from subsiding water as it is highly likely to be contaminated after a flood.
-	Make sure that running water and any stored drinking water is not contaminated before consuming.
